HOW AND WHERE WE STARTED

R.O.C.K. MINISTRIES, INC. is a non-profit, inter-denominational organization reaching out to win souls for Jesus Christ through an active ministry based on need. The target area for R.O.C.K Ministries is Florida and it's environs. This ministry focuses on everyone who has a physical, emotional or spiritual need. R.O.C.K. Ministries, Inc. is headquartered in Nokomis, Florida, with additional programs on an on-going basis nationwide and at remote locations in the Sarasota area and in it's neighboring communities including Nokomis and nationwide.

Michael and Clairie Monokian, while residing in Miami, Florida, conceived the ministry based on a call from the Holy Spirit. On September 24th, 1984, R.O.C.K. Ministries was born and registered. A month later on October 31st, R.O.C.K. held it's first Directors meeting. The ministry has traditionally welcomed the ideas and energies of others in the community of Christ. Until June 1987, R.O.C.K. operated from various churches in Miami with the co-corporation of the ministers and governing bodies.

In July of 1987, R.O.C.K. ministries opened a residential house, Rock Lifeline, to care for substance abusers and the homeless. Rock Lifeline offered structured Christian discipleship rehabilitation. This residential program focused on Christian influences and values communicated through word and deed and worked with the total person -physical-emotional and spiritual.

R.O.C.K. Ministries operated from the location of Rock Lifeline at 331 N.E. 22nd Street in Miami, Florida until 1994 when the resident program of this ministry relocated to the Arena Towers in Miami. By year 1997 all the inner city Christian youth were funneled to three churches back in the heart of the inner city of Miami enabling the ROCK MINISTRIES, INC. headquarters to be based in Nokomis, Florida.

R.O.C.K Ministries has always had an outward focus. Intercessory prayer partners from a number of Churches participate in the ministry, from witnessing and counseling to social functions set to a Christian tone appealing to people of all ages and diverse backgrounds and lifestyles.

The ministry of R.O.C.K is a practical one; having sought to go wherever the need is and addressing a variety of spiritual, physical and emotional needs in a "hands-on" fashion. Its founders, guided by the Holy Spirit, have dedicated themselves to full-time ministry by example, augmented by the perpetual need for learning and greater understanding. Clairie is a graduate of Miami Christian College followed by a degree from International Theological Seminary. Michael Monokian was a prominent businessman in the community.

In it's 21 years of existence, R.O.C.K has directly ministered to thousands of people, providing food, shelter, clothing, education, and emotional support. Through its efforts, hundreds of others have been led to Christ, conquering drugs, alcohol, physical and emotional difficulties as well as many forms of bondage. Many are now regularly witnessing for Christ on the streets and in different countries, while several youth have enlisted in the U S military. Some have gone to Bible College and become senior pastors, youth pastors, teachers and missionaries. Scores have been offered living quarters at Rock Lifeline on an open-ended basis.
